Do what you love, and eff the rest!

You only live once… It sounds cliche, but it’s so true. Turning 30 this year has been transformative; it was a sh*t or get off the pot moment for me. Crossing the finish line into a new decade made me realize how fast time flies, and we can’t wait for life to come to us. I realized I’m great at my job, enjoying the daily challenges, but my true passion lies in health and fitness… Hence the blog! This was my first step to finding the outlet that makes my heart sing. I live and breathe health and wellness. I’m proud to be a nerd who hears that some off-the-wall food or spice is the new superfood and begins researching it immediately, so excited to tell everyone.

Nose out of the books, CrossFit has been a passion of mine and included in my daily routine for the last five years. It’s weird to flash back to when I started… I had never consistently worked out my upper body before. I was so intimidated of the intensity. Now I crave that intensity; I crave accomplishing the next goal in weight or skilled movement; I crave helping others perfect their form to achieve their goals too.

Within the fitness world, yoga has also been something I’ve enjoyed off and on for years. But when I began learning about the strength in yoga, I got excited that my worlds overlapped. The strength I had gained from CrossFit helped my yoga practice, and the flexibility and openness yoga brought me helped keep my muscles loose for lifting, box jumps, etc. So fast forward about a year, and I enrolled in Yoga Teacher Training and became a certified yoga teacher (with a Vinyasa focus) in October. Yoga TT was step two in the journey to figuring out the true me.

Step 3… I am proud to say that a week ago, I taught my first group fitness class! I wasn’t sure if anyone would even show up, and I had 5 amazing ladies come with smiles and energy. They left sweating, happy and ready to come back for more — success! Through this new gym, I will be able to teach group fitness classes, yoga and eventually work one-on-one with clients on their individual diet and fitness goals. THIS is what brings my life true balance.

Working a full time job, sitting on multiple boards of directors and learning a whole new side of myself is a LOT to take on, but it’s worth it. The time I spend in the gym with people who thank me for a small tip gives me the energy to give back in all aspects of my life.

Today is Thanksgiving, and I have so much to be thankful for. You have to live your life with balance and contentment. Do what makes you happy; learn to say “no” to the things that don’t bring you joy. We only have one life to live!

This is me; this is 30; I am grateful.
